This is the most challenging step of web development. The problem is most proprietors hope to upload everything on their website. They just cannot decide what need not go on the site. However, there are four steps to define your site's features, which would make the job easier:
-
Set priorities about what will be included Priorities should base on both your business goals and your visitors' needs. Before you do this, it is important to agree on the site’s overall mission and objectives you have defined earlier.
-
Make a list that outlines everything your site could possibly do or offer You have to brainstorm with your team to come out a long list of all the possible features your site could include.
-
Identify core features without which your site could not launch Sometimes these core features will be obvious. If you are launching a commerce site, for example, users must be able to select a product and purchase it. No point in launching the site if they can not do that.
-
Prioritize other features you would like to include For each feature, ask yourself:
-
How important is this feature? 3 ways to rate importance: user needs, business needs and organizational needs.
-
How easy is this feature to implement? 3 ways to gauge easiness: time constraints, budget constraints and staff constraints.
