If you have been online trying to make money with your own website or considering building a website around something you enjoy with the hope to also make money, then I want you to take a little time out and consider exactly what you want to achieve and how you are going to achieve it.

The vast majority of people online do not make money. This is a fact, in actual fact what is interesting is that if you look at businesses offline, you would also see that the vast majority fail there also. This does not mean that they are bad people or that they are a bottle short of a six pack.

All I am saying is that the vast majority fails and this is a fact. If you and I are considering building a business online with our own website, then I imagine we would want to ensure that we have everything we need to succeed.

To me it's like been a pilot, I do not know if you know much about planes and training to be a pilot, but when training you always work on the worst case scenarios and how you would react. The opposite seems to be true when building a website or business online. You are told about all the positives and your expectations are high.

As you know flying on a plane is one of the safest modes of travel, planes these days have multiple redundancies in case of emergency. If we were flying businesses we would have a lot of wreckage every week.

So what can we learn form this? You need to research, research and research some more. Put in a strong foundation and understand your target before you ever buy anything. Understand that things go wrong and be prepared for it. Build your site not for yourself, but for those who will visit it. Always be learning, measuring and testing.
