Why Meta Tags Are Everything to Search Engine Optimization
By Paul Apartin

As search engine evolve in their algorithm to determine the ranking position of a website, search engine optimization itself evolves. If you are someone who does search engine optimization, you are always trying to stay on top of the latest trends, read expert articles, go to forums and so forth.

While SEO tactics and new strategies should always be implemented and tested, as getting creative can put you on top of the competition, it is very important to also stick to the very basics of what SEO is.

If you do any search query in Google, you'll see that Google, while evolving its engine with universal search (includes social media results such as real-time tweets, youtube videos,) still indexes websites the same way. What way is this? You have a title of a website, a description of a website and its URL.

Some people who are just starting to implement SEO strategies to their website to try and get better ranking for their keywords overlook the simplicity of it all. That is something that needs to be pointed out. If you're going to do some website optimization, start with the basics! Although Google has about 200 ranking algorithm signals, there are three elements that they show you right in front of you when you perform a search which again comes down to the three basic meta tags of a website: TITLE TAGS, DESCRIPTION TAGS, and KEYWORD TAGS.

In order to have success in 2010 in the engines, doing keyword research should be your first step to analyze the competition and really see if optimizing for a certain keyword will be worth your time and possible to achieve rankings you desire.
