There is so much competition and so much work to be done to even make a dent in the online marketing world. What do you do? You have plenty of options when it comes to getting visitors to your website. First, there is PPC or pay per click. In essence, you are basically paying for clicks from potential visitors to your site. Obviously, there is much more involved in making ppc work, but that is another topic all together. Next, there is article writing. If you can gain your visitors attention through your words, you could potentially receive new and repeat visitors to your website. Another method of gaining visitors is through social bookmarking. Social bookmarking sites match sites with the interests of the user. Unfortunately, this traffic doesn't typically convert when speaking of sales.
There are thousands of other ways to get traffic to your website. However, in my opinion, the best method is pure organic traffic. What is organic traffic and why is it the best? First of all, organic traffic is absolutely free (with the exception of hosting costs, domain name purchasing, etc.). Furthermore, this type of traffic is generally targeted traffic. If someone arrives at your site looking for a specific item or information, they probably typed in a keyword or phrase that led them to your website. SEO, or search engine optimization, will also lead them to your page. Once again, this is another topic that I could write numerous pages on.
Keywords play an important role in natural organic traffic. The problem is finding the right keywords to actually make a difference. Typically, the generic one or two word keywords or phrases take a lot of work to conquer. However, if you can find decent long-tail keywords, you are on your way. That is why it is important to have a good keyword tool. There are a lot of free options out there, but these tools do not give enough information. The keyword tools that carry a monthly fee will show you everything you need to find the right keywords:
- Daily, weekly and monthly search numbers
- What keywords the competition is targeting
- Custom searches and retrieval
- Import/Export Functions
- Multiple searches at one time
Many of these paid programs can cost up to $100 a month. If you are using the tools daily and are getting good results, then I would say that is well worth it. Up until a few days ago, I was using a paid service. Yes, it was worth it, but I have found a much cheaper option.
