Travel and Tourism Research Moves Online
By Andy Hayes

The time has come when the common consumer has now decided to use the Internet to research their buying decision as well as follow-through with the purchase. You can't blame them, as it provides an easy and low-hassle environment to comparison shop and research their options. But are you prepared for this marketing and technology shift? Here are a few things to check to make sure you're standing on firm footing.

  • Social Media: You don't need to have an active campaign but have you secured usernames on the major sites, as well as setup a way to listen in on comments made about your brand? The conversations are happening without you so listening is a must.
  • Stellar Website Content: As this is often now a consumer's first impression, you need to put your best foot forward. Does your website explain all of your offerings clearly and explain your customers' questions? Take a fresh look.
  • Search Engine Optimization: Can people find you in the search engines? More importantly, can they find you under the keywords that are important? It's not just about your name - if you didn't know the name of your business, could they still find you?
  • Staying in Touch: Once someone finds you, are there ample ways to stay in touch? For example, if someone is researching and you don't have any availability, is there a waitlist they can join to get notices on future changes?
The travel industry is an always changing marketplace, but Internet technology is here to say. What does your website content and online presence say about you?
