Why Almost Every Guru Is Dead Wrong About Email Marketing

I could give a list of people who are willing to pay $1,000 or more to get more customers. If you're a marketer, you'd want that list wouldn't you? Well, okay here's what you do. Open your yellow pages. Everyone that has over a quarter page ad has paid over $1,000 to get more customers to their business fits that criteria. There's your list.

Do you think that list is any good? Not really. The point is that, in internet marketing, it's not just about having a list. The real gold you have is the relationship you have with your list.

The problem is that most gurus don't give you any good advice on how to cultivate a strong relationship with your list. What happens then is that your emails don't get opened, don't get responded to, and in general, people do not welcome you in their in-boxes.

Why is this? Well, most gurus are still running on the old school "2002" method. In 2002, before spam had raped and pillaged every facet of the internet, it was still kind of a big deal to get any email. It was even cool to get emails about the latest, greatest hyped to the moon product that could change your life.

But as the years based, these emails begin to grow in frequency. And at the same time, the people reading the emails had tried product after a product, and the only thing that had changed was their outlook on internet marketers - those damn shovel sellers!

However, your super stud internet marketer who got in when the time was right now has a giant email list, and can still make a bunch of money without much effort just because of the size of their list. In other words, they can screw almost everything up and still make more in a week than most people make in year.

But that doesn't mean you should follow their advice. See, there's a new model on the internet that is taking place. The web is more social than ever. We have blogs, and video websites and all kinds of crazy social media sites.

And we have more tools than ever to create an interaction with our list - which is what you need to do. You have to have a two way dialog with your list these days that shows them you are in tune with their wants and desires. Also, you have to show them that you are a person and you have to let your personality shine through in your writing.

Anyway, I'm probably preaching on deaf ears. Most people can't build a list because they can't even get targeted traffic to their website.
