The biggest downfall to most online marketers and online businesses is their failure to expand on their lead generation skills. It takes on average 7 views of a product or service before a customer will buy. Using email marketing and the list building strategies offered here you will be able to increase your opt-in list.
1. Ask for the Email - This seems simple enough but I have too often seen websites that do not even ask for the visitor's email. In order to build your email list you must first ask for the email or you are wasting a valuable resource, your website.
2. Add an Opt-in List Form to Your Website - Another simple one that goes back to asking for the email. The advantage to the opt-in form is to get their name and their email address. After they enter their name and email, they are put in your opt-in list or email list (both terms are the same thing).
3. Offer Free Goodies - This is by far the most overlooked strategy by most email marketing campaigns. Part of your online marketing strategy, no matter what strategy you use, should be to offer freebies. Offering freebies not only entices someone to enter your email list but will help later in your marketing promotion efforts. Plus this adds brownie points to your marketing brand.
4. Leverage Social Media - Using tools like Facebook and Twitter are great tools for lead generation. Tell everyone in your social networks about your new newsletter or report and how it benefits them. People will flock to your email list.
5. Recruit Subscriber's Friends - In your emails that are sent to your list, let them know that it is ok to tell-a-friend. If they like your content, they probably have a friend that will like it too. This is a great strategy to leverage for your marketing promotion efforts.
6. Use Pay per Click - I must say from the get go, I do not recommend using PPC as a way to build your opt-in list unless you are an experienced copywriter that knows how to convert the traffic to opt-ins. However, this is another great tool mainly because you can zero in on exactly the right customer you want to be in your opt-in list.
Email is a great way to build your marketing brand and leverage your marketing promotion efforts. If used correctly, you will be enjoying many checks coming in the mail but only if you use this list building strategy in a respectful way. Do NOT trick people into opting in. This will kill your marketing brand online for sure.
