Email marketing is one of the most lucrative ways to make your business grow; that is, by having an ever growing list of subscribers to your email, you stand a good chance of making more money. However, proper email marketing is difficult to do-you don't want to inundate your subscribers with email because then they'll opt out in droves, but you also don't want to be so timid that you don't make any one-on-one contact. You also want be certain that the email you're sending out is useful to the reader, not just a bunch of spam that will get you a pile of opt-outs and a flurry of spam reports.
There are a few tricks to having proper email marketing that is effective and won't annoy your subscribers. In fact, if you do it properly, you could end up with your email forwarded which means the potential for more subscribers without you having to do a thing.
1. Rate of sending. Studies have shown that if you're going to do email marketing, sending out one a day at the same time every day is best because people get accustomed to having email coming in at a certain of day and thus they will become used to opening up your email. It will turn into a comforting piece of regular mail in a hectic day. Conversely, if you can't keep up with a daily email, then a weekly one is suitable too, but make it a good long email, almost an ezine, so that you prove that you're doing more than advertising.
2. Content. Your email should have content not advertisements or spam. Talk about what's new today in your store. Talk about your views on products related to your store. Talk about the latest buzz related to your products. Do polls, do an interview, do something that will interest your readers. You of course can have a discreet advertisement, usually just a link back to your site at the bottom, but make sure that that's the extent of it. Have interesting, easy to read content; if you have to, hire someone to write it for you.
3. Have an legitimate opt-out option. It may sound a bit counter intuitive to give your subscribers the chance to leave you right in your email, but it has to be done. Not only is it illegal and rude not to have this, but by having an easy way to opt-out, you make your customers more inclined to trust your word if you give them a way out that's easy and non-invasive.
4. Never ask for any login details, bank details, credit card details or addresses until they are ordering something from you. If you ask for these things right in the email, you are instantly labeled a spammer and possible scammer.
When you do proper email marketing, you not only keep your regular subscribers interested in your business and what you're up to, but you can even get your email forwarded by your subscribers to other people, meaning more people joining you without doing anything. Putting a bit of effort into your email marketing will pay off wonderfully in the end, so be sure to put thought and creativity into it.
